Nigeria: 1,200 Vigilantes undertake Intelligence & Counter Terrorism Training to curb Boko Haram menace

About 1, 200 members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) recently ended a four-day intensive training on intelligence gathering and counter terrorism at the National Youth Service Corps Camp, Kubwa on the outskirt of Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
Charging the personnel at the end of the program, Commander-General, VGN, Colonel Usman Mohammed Jahun (rtd) said the officers who are drawn from the 36 states of the country and its capital have been equipped on intelligence gathering and counter terrorism to ensure proper dissemination to other security agencies in the country. He said the VGN has contributed a lot to peace and security in the troubled northeast states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa.
The commander-general also said about 24 states of the federation have enacted laws recognizing the vigilante groups in their states, but no law has been enacted to recognize vigilante group at the national level. He stated that the group is working to get the President of Nigeria to send an executive Bill to the National Assembly to get an Act for the VGN.

Twenty one suspects have been arrested in Plateau over the killings and unrest in the state - Eleven of the suspects were arrested in connection to the killings in Barkin Ladi and environs - Fourteen others were arrested at the scene of a violent protest after the killings The Nigeria Police Force, Plateau state command, has arrested 21 persons in connection with the killings and unrest in Plateau state.
