Hurricane Irma, an historic and unprecedented storm, laid ruin to much of the Caribbean. The statistics are numbing:
  • 1.2 million people in the Dominican Republic affected by damage to water infrastructure
  • 17,000 people in immediate need of shelter
  • 90% of infrastructure (utilities, roads) ruined on Anguilla
  • 95% of houses on Barbuda are destroyed
  • 1,000s of livelihoods in rubbles
  • 28 people reported dead
The United Nations Development Programme remains on the ground in the region. Our early recovery programs are making direct, immediate impacts in Irma’s aftermath. We’re restoring essential services, providing water and sanitation kits, building materials for reconstruction, seeds and agricultural goods, and much, much more
